SURFSPOT

Gran Canaria es la isla principal de las Islas Canarias. Por ser una isla afortunada en cuanto al viento se refiere, es posible disfrutar del viento durante todo el año siendo la isla más ventosa de Canarias. La isla goza del llamado “efecto de aceleración” que alimenta los vientos fuertes en la parte sudeste de la isla. Debido a la forma circular de la isla y sus montañas con una altura de 2000 metros, el viento acelera e incluso duplica su velocidad. Éste fenómeno puede causar velocidades del viento de entre 30 y 40 nudos.

The wind in Bahía Feliz blows mostly side-shore from the left (northeast). The beach is approximately 50 to 100m long – depending on the tide level. The temperature lies between 20 and 25°C during the winter and between 25 and 30°C in the summer. The water is 18 to 25°C.

VIENTO Y OLAS

Normalmente durante las mañanas el viento es más ligero y las condiciones para principiantes son más adecuadas. Más acción para los avanzados empezará a partir de las doce cuando el viento es más fuerte. Dentro de la bahía se encuentran perfectas condiciones para practicar beach start, waterstart o las primeras trasluchadas. Alrededor de 800m de la playa se pueden encontrar mayor swell, entre 0.5 y 1.5m de ola, perfecto para coger olas o practicar algunos saltos. En la parte izquierda de la bahía hay un cabo donde se forman olas algunos días del año que son perfectas para coger olas “frontside”.

There is a 60% to 70% probability of planning winds over 4 bft from October to April. In the summer months (May to September) the trade wind is more consistent but comes more northerly. When the wind blows around the island, Bahía Feliz is sheltered and only light winds reach the bay. For that reason we offer highwind excursions to top spots like Salinas de Arinaga or Burrero which are situated near the famous world cup spot Pozo Izquierdo. 

The wave conditions depend on the actual tide level. The breaking wave will have more power at high tide than at low tide and the standing area will be reduced with high tide. Especially at new moon and full moon, the shore break can be challenging. For this reason we advise you to pay attention to the tidal table at all times.
